Walk This Way: To Health & Fitness I Mean

We often take walking for granted but the benefits of this underrated activity are countless. You certainly can walk your way to fitness, according to recent research by the Mayo Clinic.

Regular walks can help you maintain a healthy weight, strengthen your bones and muscles, improve your balance and coordination, prevent high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, AND even improve your mood! The more and the faster you walk, the better the benefits. Even 15-30 minutes a day can make a difference!

Naturally, a good fitness walk requires good posture.

Here are some tips from the Mayo Clinic for a proper technique:

  • Hold your head high
  • Look forward, not at the ground
  • Keep your back straight
  • Tighten your stomach muscles
  • Swing your arms freely with a slight bend in the elbows
  • Move your shoulders naturally
  • Walk smoothly, rolling your feet from heel to toe

Check out this Mayo Clinic diagram showing the best walking posture.

A #GlamWorkout tip: you don’t have to be wearing gym gear or workout shoes to be practicing this activity. Just opt for your fave outfits and accessories to keep you motivated and make you enjoy the walk even more. #TheGlamWorkoutWay
