Do you ever wondered if your favorite beauty products may contain ingredients that are harmful to your skin? Or do you really trust those “clean beauty” labels on products that are heavily advertised? Do you ask yourself: How clean, products labeled as “natural,” really are? Are there different “grades” of how natural different producers are? And what are some of the main things to keep in mind before you purchase them?
A lot of questions, right? The good news is that all these questions can now be answered in a matter of seconds for each product, thanks to technology.
I had heard before about the Environmentalist Working Group (EWG), the research that they’ve done on sunscreens and all the alarming facts they discovered about some of the most popular products on the market. What I didn’t know is that EWG has also created an app, called the Healthy Living App, which rates more than 120,000 food and personal care products right “at your fingertips,” as they say on their website.
You can enter the product’s name in the app, or simply scan the barcode from your phone! The results appear momentarily. Isn’t that great!
EWG rates products from 1 to 10, with 1 being safe and healthy for your body, and 10 containing harmful ingredients and not recommended for use. Check out this video that I created where I am testing the app. It’s pretty cool!
EWG provides objective information and scientific research on so many related topics as sometimes products labels can be misleading or not containing the full list of ingredients. On the website, beside information on individual products, you can also find useful tips on how to decode labels, tips for greener cleaning of your home, as well as ratings and reviews of the current healthiest products for various categories.
It’s worth checking out, let me know in the comments below what you think.
And here are some natural products that I really enjoy and use regularly. I’ve featured some of the brands is separate blog posts, see below.
